NC Aquaculture Statistics

Over 250 individuals hold NCDA-issued licenses for pond and tank aquaculture. Not all of these, however, are commercial producers (commercial production defined as annual sales greater than $5000). The table below gives estimated production statistics for commercial aquaculture farms in North Carolina.

Nearly 300 individuals hold leases obtained from the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries to raise shellfish on ocean bottom. Statistics for shellfish and soft-shell crab are derived from this division.
