Guidelines for the NC Tomato Growers Association Scholarship

1. The NCTGA will set aside a separate endowment scholarship account for the purpose of offering merit/need based scholarships which will be open to any North Carolina resident who pursues a horticulture or agribusiness undergraduate or graduate degree in a N.C. four year College or University.

2. The NCTGA will set the goal for each $10,000.00 accumulated in the educational foundation to make funds available for scholarships from the interest earned each year. One scholarship of $1000.00 per $10,000 invested will be awarded each year. There will be one scholarship of $1,000.00 awarded for the 2007 fall and 2008 spring semesters. ($500.00 will be awarded at the beginning of each of the two semesters). The scholarship recipient must be enrolled for the entire school year to receive the full scholarship. Scholarship will be distributed through the financial aid office of the attending student's college or university.

3. The Executive Board of the North Carolina Tomato Growers Association will administer this program in an objective way. All applications will be reviewed and approved by the Scholarship Committee, which is appointed from the current membership by the Executive Board. Dependents of current Scholarship Committee members will not be eligible for awards.

4. Awards will be based on the student's demonstrated scholastic achievement, initiative, leadership, financial need and extracurricular activities.

5. Scholarship is renewable upon a yearly re-application if the recipient has maintained at least a 2.5 Grade Point Average (2.5/4.0) average on all course work during the period that the scholarship was received.

6. The deadline for submitting an application is June 29, 2007. Once the applications have been evaluated and the winning recipient selected. This recipient will be notified by July 31, 2007. There will be an announcement of the award recipient to the NCTGA membership at the Tomato Field Day at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research Station in Fletcher, N.C., in August 2007.

7. If for any reason the NCTGA ever disbands and the monies of the association are disbursed, the assets of this account will go to the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Ag Foundation to be continually managed as an endowed scholarship.
