The Division of Marketing - Livestock Section assists NC producers with development and implementation of marketing avenues for beef and dairy cattle, swine, sheep and goats. Also Livestock Specialists coordinate, develop and manage the livestock shows at the NC State Fair.

New Gif Image The Livestock Section assists producers to get enrolled in the USDA PVP Program so that their calves can be age and source verified. We also assist  in qualifying their feeders for NC BQA sales.

Livestock producers in North Carolina and the Southeast are again facing tough management decisions because of another drought. The Livestock Section of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture will assist in any way possible during this time. We have several resources available depending on the management decisions that you make. Looking ahead to more extended drought you might want to sell your calves early to lower the nutrient requirements of your cow herd.

We have several services to assist in selling your livestock.

  1. First we have several State Graded feeder sales this month and next. You can access that information by clicking here _ NCDA&CS - Marketing Division - Livestock or request a printed copy.
  2. We also can assist producers that have enough calves for load lots by grading, describing the cattle, and using any appropriate technology to assist you in selling your cattle where ever you like.
  3. We can help you get your herd enrolled in the USDA PVP program which provides source and age verification for your calves making them eligible for export.

NCSU Cooperative Extension agents have fact sheets and information to help you in making your herd management decisions. There website is: North Carolina Cooperative Extension: County Centers

If you need to make the very tough decision and sell part or your entire producing cow herd we can assist you with modern technology to market your cattle where and with whomever you desire. You can also get up-to-date livestock market information at our market news web site. http://www.ncagr.com/markets/mktnews/index.htm
