Scale Technician Registration for Fiscal Year 2008-2009

In order to render service as a scale technician in North Carolina during the period of July 2008 through June 2009, you must register before July 1, 2008. Please give this matter your immediate attention so that your registration can be completed before expiration. The following must be completed:

1. Review the enclosed renewal form and make any necessary corrections on the right side of the form.

2. Enter the most recent test date and inspection number for your test weights in the space provided.

3. If your weights were tested by another state or another NVLAP or A2LA accredited laboratory, include a copy of that test report with your application.

4. Enclose a check for $20 per technician.

5. Sign the form and return it to us.

Accurate NIST class F weights are required for commercial scale installation and service under the NC scale technician registration program. Each technician must have access to adequate weights to test a scale according to the procedures in NIST Handbook 44, Specifications, Tolerances, and Other Technical Requirements for Weighing and Measuring Devices. NIST Handbook 44 can be found on-line at http://ts.nist.gov/WeightsandMeasures/h44-06.cfm.

It is your responsibility to verify that your weights are scheduled and tested each year.

Weights of 50 pounds or less must be tested annually. Weights over 50 pounds and weight carts must be tested every other year. Weights may be tested at the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Standards Laboratory, 4040 District Drive, Raleigh, North Carolina 27607.

Your scale technician license may be revoked at any time if you are found to be testing scales without adequate weights or with weights that do not have a current calibration. Criminal or civil charges may be imposed if you install or test commercial scales without a current scale technician license.
