Agricultural Statistics - Weather & Crops Report:
For the month of February 2008

 


GENERAL: North Carolina received rain throughout the month of February, with monthly totals ranging from 2.37 to 6.07 inches.  The recent rains have allowed the drought not to worsen but most of the state is still classified as being in an exceptional drought.  Temperatures were above normal for the month with average temperatures ranging from 33 to 53 degrees. There were 4.5 days suitable for field work the last week of the month, compared to 4.7 days for the last week of January.  Statewide soil moisture levels are rated at 6% very short, 18% short, 68% adequate, and 8% surplus. Activities during the month included tending to livestock, spring planting preparations and general farm maintenance.
