Agricultural Statistics - Weather & Crops Report:
For the week ending March 16, 2008

 

GENERAL: For another week, North Carolina received substantial rain with totals ranging from 0.38 to 1.78 inches.  The recent rains and spring like temperatures are helping the pastures green up and start growing.  Most stations reported temperatures above normal for the week with average temperatures ranging from 36 to 57 degrees. There were 4.8 days suitable for field work, compared to 3.6 days the previous week.  Statewide soil moisture levels are rated at 2% very short, 13% short, 74% adequate and 11% surplus. Activities during the week included tending to livestock, the planting of Irish potatoes and cabbage, spreading of fertilizer, spring planting preparations and general farm maintenance.
