Agricultural Statistics - Weather & Crops Report:
For the week ending June 1, 2008


 

GENERAL:  Most of North Carolina received scattered rain throughout the week with Charlotte recording 1.14 inches. Soil moisture levels in the Mountain Region are considerably dryer than the Piedmont and Coastal Regions.  In the Mountain Region there was little relief, with moisture amounts between .32 to 1.08 inches.  There were 5.6 days suitable for field work, compared to 5.9 from the previous week.  Statewide soil moisture levels are rated at 4% very short, 21% short, 72% adequate and 3% surplus. Activities during the week included the planting of cotton, peanuts, sorghum, soybeans, sweetpotatoes, flue-cured and burley tobacco and harvesting hay, barley, rye and truck crops.
